What is a Sap?
A sap is a weighted hand weapon used for impact striking at close range. Traditionally a sap is made of leather with the weight being composed of lead or other heavy material in the striking end. Saps are firm enough to be used in a thrusting manner as well. Sap design is quite varied and many variations and sizes exist.
What is a Blackjack?
A blackjack is also a weighted hand weapon used for impact striking at close range. It differs from a sap in having considerably more spring in the handle that is connected to the weight. This creates an amplified whipping effect when the blackjack is used. It is constructed of a spring with a weight attached and then wrapped in leather. Some blackjacks are firm enough to be used in a thrusting manner whilst others have too much spring.
